Kidnapped at 16 years old and sold into slavery in Ireland, Patrick prayed daily for his freedom. God answered his prayer and miraculously helped him escape the country. Later, God revealed to Patrick in a dream that he should return to Ireland and preach the Gospel to the people who had once held him captive.

St. Patrick’s life was a beautiful example of the message of Jesus. While Jesus entered into the world to share the Good News with people who would ultimately reject Him, St. Patrick returned to the land of his captivity knowing the risks, the danger, and the deeply-held pagan (Druid) beliefs of the people there, but he followed the Lord’s call nonetheless. He stepped into the darkness of a pagan nation to share the light of the Gospel with them. God’s Word spread throughout the entire nation, changing Ireland forever.
